Sports reporter injured in slashing attack – New York Post

A sports reporter was slashed in the face after leaving a Meatpacking District bar early Sunday — and police are investigating whether the attack may be related to an argument the victim had earlier in the night.

The 25-year-old scribe, who covers basketball for SB Nation, had just left Fig and Olive on W. 13th St. and was attempting to order food at a halal cart near the corner of W. 14th St. and Hudson St. when someone came up and sliced him on the left side of his face around 4:45 a.m., police said.

The victim told police he could not tell if the attacker was a man or a woman, and said the person ran away immediately after. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a three-inch gash on his face.

Police said the man had had a scrap with a group of people on the street about 90 minutes prior to the slashing.

He was apparently arguing with two women and a man when one of the women hurled a can of Red Bull on the victim, who promptly picked up the can and threw it back, striking her with it, cops said.

Police said it’s not clear whether that incident had anything to do with the slashing but it is being investigated as a possibility, officials said.

No arrests have been made.
