‘Historic announcement’ coming from US Soccer on Monday, World Cup bid expected – CBSSports.com

U.S. Soccer announced that CONCACAF members Canada, Mexico and the United State will make an “historic announcement” on Monday in New York City at the One World Trade Center, and the expectation is for it reveal the plans of a joint bid by the nations to host the 2026 World Cup.

U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati, CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani (from Canada) and Decio De Maria, the Mexican soccer president, will be attending.

The announcement is set for 2 p.m. ET. 

On Thursday Montagliani said that the three countries were aiming for a joint bid. And the North American trio are looked at as the favorite to host the World Cup in nine years’ time.

The next World Cup is next summer in Russia.
