FALMOUTH — Skowhegan High scored twice in the first half and held on to defeat Westbrook, 2-1, in the Class A field hockey state championship game Saturday at Falmouth High.

It was Skowhegan’s third state title in a row, 15th in 17 years and 18th overall. The Indians finished 17-1.

Westbrook, making its first title game appearance since 1980, finished 14-5.

Skowhegan scored just 3:14 into the game on an Olivia Hatch goal. The Indians made it 2-0 on a Julia Steeves tip-in with 10:37 left in the first half.

Westbrook played better in the second half and pulled within 2-1 with 22:22 remaining on a Mary Kerr goal.
